Overcoming Anger
Anger –
You Are Not
Welcome Here.
Go!
Going From Anger
to Calm and Peace
James 1:19-20 “This you know,
my beloved brethren. But everyone
must be quick to hear, slow
to speak and slow to anger;
20 for the anger of man does not
achieve the righteousness of
God.”
Anger should not be able to control us; we are to control our
anger. God put us in charge, so let’s rule by our spirit and not let the
flesh rule over us with anger. Are you ready to be set free from uncontrolled
anger and its results? You can be a person with much more
peace and calm. Those around you will surely appreciate it and all will
benefit from your new found peace and way of handling life.
There are the type of people who just let things roll off and do not
want any confrontation at all. There are others who are provoked to
anger at even the smallest of issues. They act or react in anger and
burst out in word and deed so quickly, it is surprising and hurtful to
those around them. The one lashing out is not very happy with himself
or herself to be honest, but pride says, “That’s just me. That’s the
way I am. Take it or leave it.”
Many of these are nice people in many ways, until the anger causes
them to blow up. Once they have said there piece or tore something
or someone down, they are calm again and the event is over. But
the damage has been done to a relationship. Others are still hurting
as a result. Often it is only verbal, but this too causes much damage.
There is a away to changer. It is found in the word of God. I tell
people, ”If you are sick-eat healing Scriptures. If you are sad and have
a spirit of heaviness–eat joy Scriptures. If you are broke financially-eat
prosperity Scriptures. And so forth. So if you are angry or have a tendency
to become angry very easily, eat Scriptures that deal with anger
and being calm. Reading (I call it eating) Scriptures will change the
way we think, act, react, and live. Others lives around us will enjoy us
much more and we will enjoy them and even our own selves much
more .Life will be more enjoyable when you stop having “outburst of
anger.”
Is there ever a time to be angry? Yes, when evil and unrighteousness
surface. However, deal with the problem and get your peace and
calm thinking back as soon as possible. See Ephesians 4:26-32. Even
Jesus got angry at those in the temple; however He did not let anger
control His life. If He had, He would not have fulfilled His Father’s purpose
for sending Him to the earth.
Anger eats a person up; it can be like a cancer. Unforgiveness can
set in and the angry person becomes a slave to unforgiveness and bitterness.
It’s hard to keep your joy when you are angry so much of the
time. God wants us to enjoy the trip called life. Anger steals our peace,
our joy, and our relationships. Anger keeps us from being the person
God designed us to be. Outbursts of anger is a deed of the flesh.
Love, joy, peace is fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Anger of kings caused wars. It has caused the death or harm to
many of people. It has caused people to fail that should have succeeded.
It has caused good relationships to end in bitterness and separation.
We can fix this anger problem in our lives. First admit that you
have an anger problem, so God can forgive you and help you be set
free from this trait. I said earlier that we should eat or read Scriptures
that deal with the areas we need to change. So I have compiled a list
of Scriptures to help people who are angry or who get angry so easily.
The word of God when you meditate on it and quote it will change
your life. For some there will be immediate and drastic change. For
others the root problem and habit is so ingrained, it may take a little
longer. For most of us, we will improve greatly, although we may still
slip back to our old ways occasionally-but not as often and for not as
long and it won’t be as intense as we begin to handle situations differently.
Result will be more peace in your life and those around you.
Read these verses daily until there is a real change in your life.
When you change, be determined to be a person of peace and joy. Be
determined that anger will not rule and wreck your life and those
around you. When or if you slip back to the old person of anger, reread
these daily until you become what God wants you to be.
Psalm 39 encourages us to listen, meditate, then speak. Psalm
39:1-3 I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will
restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.” (2)
I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; And my sorrow
was stirred up. (3) My heart was hot within me; While I was musing,
the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue…”
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me,
and know my anxieties; (24) And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.” Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way
that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Prov.
14:29 “He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who
is impulsive exalts folly.” Prov. 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.” Prov. 15:4 “A wholesome tongue is
a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”
Proverbs 15:23 “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!”
Prov. 15:28 “The heart of the righteous studies how to
answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. Prov. 16:2-3 “All
the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the
spirits. (3) Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be
established. Prov. 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, And a
haughty spirit before a fall.” Prov. 16:24 “Pleasant words are like a
honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Prov.
16:32 “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who
rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” Prov 17:9 Note: Stop repeating
past hurts and things that were said and done-it only stirs up hurt
and anger again. Prov 17:9 “He who covers a transgression seeks
love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends.” Prov 17:14 “The
beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention
before a quarrel starts.” Prov 17:27 “He who has knowledge spares
his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.” Prov 18:13
“He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to
him.” Prov 18:21 Note: Control your mouth. Keep your heart right
before God. What is in your heart comes out of your mouth. Use your
tongue to speak life. Your words can build up and bring life or tear
down and cause death. Prov 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of
the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Prov 19:11 “The
discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook
a transgression.”
See Galatians 5:19-23. Ephesians 4:26-32. James 1:19-20 “This you
know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow
to speak and slow to anger; (20) for the anger of man does not
achieve the righteousness of God.” Romans 12:18 “If possible, so far
as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
As you begin to change, there are times when situations must be
dealt with sternly. Keep your temper under control as you deal with the
situation or person. Some of us are more intense than others and we
handle things in such a way with our personality that others think we
are angry with them, when in fact we are just trying to handle a situation
and be done with it and move on. But be careful, it is so easy to
move past being intense to anger and go back to our old ways. Be led
by the Holy Spirit in this area of your life as in others. (Romans 8:14)
As you change, the results will be blessings and peace to your self
and those around you. Your medical reports will even be better. Your
relationships will be better. Life will be better. “Pursue peace with all
men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.”
(Hebrews 12:14)
Matthew 5:9 (Jesus said) “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
shall be called sons of God.” Note: Peacemakers will bring up
unpleasant things; they will call or drive to see someone to talk about
things that could cause strife and division if left alone and not dealt
with. It is not fun, but often necessary. Peacekeepers on the other
hand do not want confrontation, so they just keep quiet about the
problem. It will surface sooner or later. However, the peacemaker
must keep as his goal to restore and make peace. He must not bring
the situation up in anger. There is a way to do this.
You can go from a person of anger to a person of calm and peace
and still stand up for what is right and keep things moving along in the
work place and family. You can live without all the anger. Life will
be much more enjoyable. God has enabled you to win in life and you
can overcome a lifestyle of anger and outbursts of anger. You can be
in control. You can be pleasant and enjoyable to be around. Life will
be much more enjoyable. Go in peace as Jesus told us. Put on laughter
and kind words. Put on the oil of joy. Keep your joy.
Jesus died for you to have joy. Be blessed!
As a bonus –the Bible lets us know that joy of the
Lord is our strength. Also, laughter does good like a
medicine. Anger brings stress, headaches, heart
aches, and bad heart conditions. Anger causes fights
that end up in harm. Joy brings good health. Anger is
destructive. Peace is productive.
The Word will change us. Stay in the Word
about anger (keep reading and quoting it) until it has
a positive effect in your life. You will win when you
stay in the Word and apply it to your life. I believe for
good reports in the future in this area of your life. And
it will cause other areas of life to improve also. Go, be
the person of love, joy, peace, and power the Holy
Spirit has designed you to be. Life is about to be much
better. It is a gift from Jesus. Enjoy!
Out of anger to life. Sin produces an angry spirit
toward God and others. Sin draws people away
from God. God does not want you to be an angry person
with sin controlling your life. No, He wants to forgive
you. He sent Jesus to give us eternal life and
abundant life here also. Confess your sins and
receive Jesus as Savior. Pray: Dear God, I am a sinner
who needs a Savior. Forgive my sins and all my
anger. Thank You Jesus for dying for me on the cross
and shedding Your blood to wash away my sins.
Thank You for not being mad at me. I receive Jesus
right now as Savior and the Lord (Boss, Master) of my
life. Take away my sin and my anger. Holy Spirit, help
to live a life that is pleasing to my Father in Heaven.
In Jesus name-Amen. Now read Romans 3:10, 3:23,
5:8, 6:23, 10:9-10, 13.

On the Trail
The trail has been good with good reports and a good harvest.
My wife, Cherlyn, and I were recently in Las Vegas at the
Wrangler National Finals Rodeo recently. We were there for
two weeks. We presented Jesus at the rodeo, the casinos,
the trade shows, the restaurants, the airport, on the jet plane
and everywhere we went. People were drawn to us on the
streets as we walked Las Vegas Blvd, known as “The Strip”.
We prayed with people and gave Cowboy Bibles out. The first
waiter that served us prayed to receive Jesus after we shared
the good news of eternal life found in Jesus alone. A young
Jewish girl who worked in a facial salon asked God to forgive
her sins as the tears came down her face and asked Jesus to
come live in her. We prayed for God to bring the right people
into her life to help her in her walk with Jesus. Two girls at the
jewelry store in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino were open
to the Word and were happy to receive prayer and a an
encouraging word to go be what Jesus intended them to be.
One said she was baptized as a baby, but now realized she
needed to be baptized on her own free will and choosing. We
told her about the baptism in the Holy Ghost also.
At the rodeo, Coy Huffman does Power UP every year for
the rodeo contestants just a few minutes before each performance.
Power Up is a short 3-4 minute Bible message and a
prayer to teach and encourage the contestants. He has done
270 before this year; that is 10 perfs for 27 years. This year
he did his 271st Power Up, and then had to leave to take care
of Cowboy Church business in California for a few days. I
stepped in to do Power Up for four performances until Coy
returned. One night I spoke on how God is “I AM”; He is not
“I Used TO BE”, or “I WILL BE SOMEDAY”, but He is present
today because He is the great “I AM”. Jesus said, “Before
Abraham was, ‘I AM’” Jesus is the same yesterday, today,
yes, and forever. He is still healing broken hearts, broken
things and broken people. I told them to ride into the arena
knowing that the great “I AM” goes with you. Jesus says, “I
am with you always , even to the end of the age.” Rest
assured that we are in good hands and our future is secure.
I am still on the Trail for Jesus and have been for 33 years. I
am blessed to have a partner in Cherlyn as we minister
together. We thank all of our Cowboy Partners who help fund
this ministry. You are welcome to join our efforts and become
a Cowboy Partner with us. Our partners have a share in every
soul we reach for the kingdom of God. Be blessed! .
