-Jesus Is The Christ- We Need His Anointing
Jesus Christ is a title, not a first and last name as we have in our societies. His Name has meaning. It tells Who He is. Sometimes He is referred to as Christ Jesus.
Paul, the apostle, ended several of his letters to the churches with this: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (see Galatians 6:18, II Thessalonians 3:18, Philippians4:23 Philemon 1:25 and other places). They understood that His name was Jesus, but more importantly that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah Whom they had long waited for thousands of years.
Jesus: This is the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name, Yeshua, which means “He Shall Save.” Fourteen men, including our Lord Jesus Christ were namedYeshua in the Bible.
Christ– also known as Christos: means “The Anointed One”. To anoint is to pour on, smear, or rub in. The kings and priest were consecrated (set apart) by pouring oil on them. Christos translates the Hebrew word Masiach to “Messiah. Christos is to be best known as “the Anointed One or “The Messiah”. Jesus Christ is God’s Appointed One, the promised Messiah.
Messiah: “Anointed One”. The early followers of Jesus called Him Jesus the Messiah, or in Hebrew, Yeshua ha Masiach. In Greek it is Christos, Anointed One, which in the English form is Christ. When the Lord is called Jesus Christ, this shows Him to be Jesus the Messiah. He is the Anointed One sent here to save us from our sins and to give us eternal life.
Jesus asked the disciples this in Matthew 16:13 “When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, ‘Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (14) So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” (15) He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (16) Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (17) Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.( 18) And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’” The rock Jesus talked of was the revelation Peter received when he understood that Jesus was the Christ. Once we get that revelation, Jesus gives us power in His Name to be over comers in life.
Who do say that Jesus is? Your answer determines your destiny here and for eternity.
The Scribes, Pharisees, Teachers, rulers, and the people could except Jesus as a Teacher, a Prophet, Rabbi, a man of God, but could not or would not understand or except Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, the Anointed One, and the Messiah. Jesus is the Christ. That is His title.
In Acts 9:22, and Acts 18:5 and 28 Paul and later Apollos proves and demonstrated by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ. This is why they were persecuted. This Jesus is the One who would forgive sins, and who will judge the living and the dead. Eternal life comes by receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
The anointing and the anointing oil.
What does the anointing and the anointing oil mean for us in this day and time? The same Spirit that anointed Jesus and raised Him from the dead will do the same in us. He gives eternal life and power to win in life over the devil, temptations, sicknesses, and other battles we face. Acts 10:38 “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Jesus tells us to do what He did. (John 14:12) We need the anointing of God in our lives to fulfill our purpose and be the people God has called us to be.
Jesus did not move into His miracle working ministry until He was anointed with the Holy Spirit after His water baptism when He came up from the water. The Holy Spirit descended upon Him to anoint Him for His earthly assignment. Since Jesus needed the anointing, we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit working in our lives.
Isaiah 10:27 tells us that “…the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing (in the KJV) and because of the anointing oil (NKJV Bible)” We want yokes/bondages broken off of our lives. We want to be used to break yokes/bondages off of others. The anointing breaks off curses and sinful lifestyles. The anointing sets the captives free. We are to be “Curse Reversers”.
We can anoint the sick for them to be healed. James 5:13-15 “Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. (14) Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; (15) and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.”
Recognize that the anointing oil represents the Holy Spirit and His Presence, and power to deliver, and to heal. The Holy Spirit brings Jesus on the scene-Jesus is the Healer.
The anointing oil is used to dedicate things, places, people, ministers and other things to the Lord. In the Old Testament we see that they anointed the tabernacle, the furnishings, the priests and other items to dedicate them to the Lord God. We can anoint our homes, autos, machinery, tools, lands, churches, ministers, ourselves, family, other people and other items to dedicate them to the Lord and put His blessings on them.
The Holy Spirit anointing teaches us, helps us, guides us, protects us, empowers us. The Holy Spirit will anoint us. He will equip us to do the work of God in the earth.
I John 2:20 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.” (know all things-NKJV).
I John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
Of course we still need to listen and helped by good anointed Bible teachers that God has set in the body of Christ.
Most importantly we need to understand that Jesus is the Christ –The Anointed One. He is the One we know as Lord and Savior of the world.
Do what Jesus Christ did and do what He says to do. Listen and follow His voice. Listen and follow the Holy Spirit to walk in victory in this life and the next for eternity. Thank You Lord for the Holy Ghost. Thank You Lord for the anointing. Thank You Lord for Jesus Christ our Savior , Lord, and Messiah.
Romans 8:14 “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Jesus said in John 10:27 30 as follows: (27) “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; (28) and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. (29) My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (30) I and the Father are one.”
Jesus needed the anointing to overcome the devil and his temptations and deceptions. Surely we do also. Ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Ghost (or Holy Spirit). He will gladly do it. He wants us to be over comers in life. Get ready for the power of God to operate in your life as you honor Jesus and act on His will and His Word. Do what the Bible says you can do.
The anointing will give you power from on high- poured out onto you from God Himself. Get ready for the ride of victory. You can have it.
God bless you who read this. I expect to hear of good reports in your life.
Prayer this: God, I am a sinner; forgive my sins. Wash me clean by the Blood of Jesus. I receive Jesus now as my Savior and Lord. I receive eternal life. I pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit to help me live a life pleasing to God, my Father. In Jesus name – Amen.
Now read the Bible and pray daily, attend church regularly, get water baptized, and ask Jesus to baptize you (fill you) with the Holy Spirit for power to be an over comer in life. (Read Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:8-9, 6:23, 10:9-10, 13, Acts 2:38, John 3:16)
