HONOR
Revelation 4 :10-11 “the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, (11) Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
First we should honor God. Those of us who know Him as Father will honor Him now in our lives and lifestyles and then we will honor Him for eternity. Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty. God becomes Father to us when we receive His Son, Jesus Christ as Savior.
When we put God first we honor Him. And He takes care of our needs-our food and clothing. Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Honor your earthly parents. Ephesians 6: 1-2 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (2) Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), (3) so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.” Look closely here. Who is it good for-the children or the parents? The parents do get a blessing when children honor them, however, the promise of a blessing is for the children. It will be well with them and they will live long. Some reading this may not have very honorable parents, either Dad or Mom, or both. They may be immoral and lawbreakers in society in their lifestyle. Find at least one good thing to honor them for anyway. Maybe they are a good carpenter, office worker, or have some other talent, or they work hard, or they help people like a stranded motorist. Maybe their friends can count on them to help when needed because they are loyal. Whatever it is, honor them in some area. Receiving a parent’s godly instruction honors them. Your lifestyle and having a good name honors your parents. Even if they were hard on you and abused you, forgive them and release them to Jesus. He died for them, you didn’t. Do this even if they are dead and buried already. It will put you in a place to be blessed.
Note: When we do what God says to do there is always a promise of blessing attached to it.
Honor God with Finances: Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; (10) So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” When we give to God and His kingdom and His church and ministers, it honors God. The money represents your blood and sweat and time spent on your job. When you give firstfruits offerings to God, it shows that God is first place in your heart. He will cause the rest you have to go further than if you had kept all of it. When you tithe – give 10%- the 90% will do more than the 100% would have done. We live in a kingdom financial system. It operates differently than the world system we live in now.
More on giving to ministries serving God: Philippians 3:14-19 (14) Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction. (15) You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; (16) for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. (17) Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. (18) But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. (19) And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
We see that the people gave into Paul’s ministry and the promise came that God would supply all of their needs. We can give time, talent, money, or other helps to churches and ministries and have the same promise.
When we give to others, it is like planting a seed that will grow and come back to us in multiplied form. Sow corn- get corn. Sow potatoes-get potatoes. Sow smiles-get smiles. Sow help-receive help. Sow money- harvest money. It is a principle in the Bible that goes back to Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
And Luke 6:38 declares, “Give and it shall be given…”
God will honor you: When we serve Jesus God will honor us. We receive back what we sow to God. Jesus said in John 12:26 “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” That is amazing- God will honor us. We will have favor with God and man.
Honor Gods Word: It will bless your life. Doors of opportunity will open for you. James 1:22 and 1:25 “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. (25) But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”
Judges 17:6 “In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.” The result was bad. Doing things our way over God’s will always bring problems.
Honor your body: I Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? (20) For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” The price is the blood of Jesus He shed for you on the cross.
The things of the flesh will not bring you honor or blessings from God. Check out this short list. It is not a smorgasbord where you chose which ones you like or don’t like. They all apply to our lives. I Corinthians 6: Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, (10) nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. (11) Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” When you come to Jesus you have a “were” story. You were one way, now you are another. It is called repentance; there is a change.
Honor your wife: I Peter 3:7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.” Not honoring your wife will hinder your prayers.
Honor your Husband: And the wife is instructed to respect (give honor) to her husband. This too brings a blessing in the marriage. Ephesians 5: 33 “Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.”
Honor marriage: Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”
Fornication is having sex with someone you are not married to. Adultery is sex with someone else’s spouse or with someone who is not your spouse. Marriage is between one man and one woman. Any other arrangement is perverse in God’s eyes.
Honor one another: Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;” It is not always about ourselves; we should love, respect, and honor others; give honor to those whom honor is due.
Honor the elders: I Timothy 5:17 “The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.” It goes on to tell us to pay them well because they are worthy laborers. Take good care of those who watch over your souls, and who help, and teach, counsel you.
Back to honoring God’s Word: These are a few areas we should remember also. We are to forgive others-the promise is God will forgive us. We are to anoint the sick with oil and pray or speak healing over them; we are to lay hands on the sick-the promise is they will be healed and if they have any sin it will be forgiven. We are to trust God- the promise is He will come to your aid and take fear out and put faith and confidence in.
(James 5: 14, Mark 16: 17-18, Matthew 6:12,14-15,
II Timothy 1:7)
Honor Your Time on Earth: Ephesians5: 15-16 “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, (16)making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” Don’t waste your life away. Fulfill your purpose and be about the Father’s business. Honor God, yourself and others. Make a difference for the good.
Honor those in authority: We live in a society that does not want any rules. It brings chaos. People want to attack the police, not listen to their instructions. God instructs us to pray for those in authority. (See I Tim 2:1-2 and Romans 13: 1-7). When do we not obey the governmental authorities? Answer: When they tell us to do something God says not to do-OR- when they tell us not to do something that God tells us to do. Example: #1) Kill your second child by abortion; we only allow a one child family, such as the Chinese government has done to their people in the past and maybe still do. #2) Pastors are not to be forced to marry a homosexual couple or marry one person to multiple spouses if that goes against their Biblical beliefs. In Texas a law was passed in 2015 called The Pastors Protection Bill to protect the pastors from being forced to perform such marriages.
Honor Others: Matthew 7:12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
Honor Jesus as Savior and Lord: The promise is eternal life. I John 2:25. “This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.” I John 5:11-13“ And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. (12) He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. (13) These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” This is the greatest promise.- a life in heaven instead of torment in hell.
Honor Jesus and what He did for you on the cross-give Him your life: Pray: “Lord, forgive my sins I pray. I want to honor You with my life now. Thank You Jesus for taking my sins on Yourself on the cross and shedding your blood to wash away my sins. I now receive Jesus as my Savior and the Lord of my life. Fill me; baptize me, with the Holy Spirit and fire. Holy Spirit, help me live a life that honors my Father in Heaven. Thank You for the promise of eternal life with You. In Jesus Name I pray-Amen.” Tell someone else of your decision. Get water baptized. Read your Bible daily. Pray daily. Meet with other believers often. Grow in Christ and the things of God. Turn from sin to righteous living.Your life will honor God. Tell others about our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord. Read Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:8-9, 6:23, 10:9-10, 13; John 3:16; Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38.
