Do Not Grieve The Holy Spirit
Ephesians 4:30 “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
There are things we do that grieve the heart of God. Only those close to us hurt us. God loves his children. When we are obedient children of our Father in Heaven it blesses Him and us. When they act in ungodly, sinful ways it grieves Him. Let’s see what ways we grieve God.
READ THIS Article-it is a good time to self inspect. How are we doing? Good I hope.
Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. 26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28 He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 5:1 “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
There are times and places we feel the presence of God; it is the Holy Spirit letting us understand and feel His nearness to us. It happens in church buildings at times or maybe out alone in a pasture away from everyone else. We honor His presence and our thoughts, words, and actions are pleasing to the Father. In the Old Testament the Presence of God was in the tabernacle that Moses erected and later in the temple that Solomon built. The Ark of the Covenant was there. People reverenced God in that place.
We see in Chronicles 7:1-3 that the priests could not enter the house of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. In verse 3 we see fire came down and the people bowed with their faces toward the ground, and worshipped and praised the Lord…
If you have received Jesus as Savior and Lord your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. We are carrying His Presence. Now there are no more holy buildings but holy temples, that is our bodies. We should be honoring the temple of God, our bodies. It should be our desire and lifestyle to listen to Him, and obey Him and honor Him. At times we do when we walk in the fruit of the Spirit as stated in Galatians 5;22-23 , “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
At other times we grieve the heart of God. How? Read again, Ephesians 4:25-31 above.
It grieves the Holy Spirit when we are bitter, angry, cut people down verbally and/or abuse physically. It grieves Him when we are disobedient to the Father. And it grieves the Holy Spirit when we do not walk in love and pursue peace. It grieves the heart of God when we move away from Him and His Presence.
When we have a bad attitude and bad words, and are critical, we still have the Holy Spirit living in us, but we do not feel His closeness. But when we repent (change) and ask forgiveness and draw near to God He draws near to us. My Pastor says the Holy Spirit is like a dove. When ungodliness shows out in our olives He flutters away, so to speak. When we are pleasing to Him His presence alights on us, and can be felt and experienced.
James 4:7-8 7 “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Remember we are a temple of the Holy Spirit. Let’s live and carry His Presence in a dark and dying world of sin. Let’s be the ones who bring lights to the darkness.
I Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
II Corinthians 6:16-18 16 “Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, ‘I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. 17 ‘Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,’ says the Lord.“AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you.18 ‘And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,’Says the Lord Almighty.”
Jesus said in John, “I have to go away. When I do I will send the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter. He will convict us of sin. He will lead, guide, and direct us. He lives in us when we receive Jesus as Savior. Jesus will baptize you in the Holy Spirit; He will fill you to overfilling. He gives us power over all the power of the enemy. He helps us pray. He helps us stay close to the will and heart of God.
Those who we are close to us can hurt us the most. God loves you. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” God desires your friendship and fellowship. He walks with us. DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT! His Presence is too wonderful to miss. God said this about His Son Jesus, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” He will say that He is well pleased with us also when we love Him and are obedient to His will. He always has our best interest at heart.
Romans 10:13 “for ‘WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.’ ”
Do you have eternal life and the Holy Spirit living in you? Would you like to? Pray this. Oh God I am a sinner. I need a Savior. Forgive my sins. I repent and turn from sin, and right now I turn to you. I call upon Jesus now as my Savior. I believe he died on the cross and shed His blood to wash away my sin, and connect me to You as my Father in heaven. I believe He rose again on the third day after they crucified Him, and the same Holy Spirit that raised Him will one day raise me to eternal life. Jesus, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and fire. Give me the power to serve You and be pleasing to the Father. Thank You. I receive You. I now call God my Father. In Jesus Name-Amen. Read (Romans 3:10; 3:23; 5:8-9; 6:23; 10:9-10, 13; John 3:16; Luke 11:13; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:38). Read the Bible daily, pray daily, get water baptized, ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit, meet often with other believers.
Being led by the Holy Spirit involves being a Giver at times: Help us present Jesus and the Holy Spirit to others. Be a part of what God is doing in the earth. We welcome you into the family of God. You can be a Cowboy Partner with us as we travel to rodeos, bull ridings, ropings, Cowboy Churches, and other places in between. We present Jesus as Savior, Lord, and the Best Friend people will ever have. God loves a cheerful giver, and will supply your needs also as you give. (II Corinthians 9:7-8). Cowboy Partners give financially, pray for and with us, and at times are available to help when we are in their area. Seek God on being a Cowboy Partner with us, or ask Him what ministry you are to be part of. We are blessed with Cowboy Partners that help send us out to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Service: What about your group? Is there anything that we can do for you? Let us know. Isaiah 6:8 Also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?” Then said I, “Send me…I’ll go.”
