Correction Is Good For Us
Above is a prayer in Jeremiah that we do not hear very often-“Correct me Lord.” We pray and hear others pray,”Save me, heal me, help me, give me, and even forgive me.” But “correct me” is not prayed enough.
And when we are corrected, how do we receive it and how do we respond? Not very well much of the time, especially from another person.
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”
Psalm 141:5 “Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me;it shall be as excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it.” It does not feel like kindness and excellent oil at the time. All we know is we are being corrected and we are not ready to receive it, plus we may still think we are right. And who are they to correct me? But a good friend will speak the truth in love. A good friend will correct you, as will a good teacher or boss. Remember- what is right is more important than who is right.
God corrects us because He wants to bless us and give us abundant life. His ways lead to blessings and victory in life. Isaiah 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. (9) “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Hebrews 12:7-11 “It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? (8) But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. (9) Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? (10) For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. (11) All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”
Proverbs 3:11-12 “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; (12) For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.”
Proverbs 10:17 “He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.”
Proverbs 12:1 “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.” Proverbs 18:1 “A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.” Proverbs 23:13-14 “Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. (14) You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.”
Correction is your friend. Correction will either keep you out of trouble or get you out of trouble. Correction in your work place or correction in how you deal with others will bring success in your life. “Thank You, Lord, for correcting me and bringing people into my life to correct me-in Jesus Name. Amen”
Pride will refuse correction. Pride will block your blessing because it does not want to hear or receive correction. You do not want to be in a position where God is opposed you do you? James 4:6 “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’” And verse 10 “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
Proverbs 4:7 and 13 tell us to get wisdom, understanding, and instruction. It will promote you to a higher way of living and to a higher place in life.
What is right is more important than who is right. It is truth that sets us free. (John 8:32) Not what feels good, not what mom and dad said, not what a denomination says, not what others say, but truth alone sets you free. What is truth about the cross?
I Cor 1:18 “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Truth about the Blood of Jesus-(Romans 5:8-9) “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (9) Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” Truth about healing-II Peter 2:24 “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” And Matthew 8:17 “This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.’”
Truth about miracles. They still happen. Some say the miracles ceased when the twelve apostles died. But we see people healed and rain stopping at our command in the Name of Jesus. We see people and animals healed and bones healing super naturally fast. We get reports of pain leaving bodies. We know of people who have been raised from the dead. Ligaments and tendons are repaired immediately often in Jesus Name. Remember Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Since He is the same, Jesus is still doing miracles in peoples’ lives. He heals our broken hearts, broken dreams, broken bodies, and more. He is a super natural Savior.
Truth about how we are saved. We can not work our way into heaven or earn it. We are saved by grace. Grace is because God is good, not because we are good. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; (9) not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Truth about Jesus. He was God manifested in the flesh on the earth to walk among us, and to live and die and live again for us. John 1: 1-3, 14 – (1) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(2)He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. (14) And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Truth about eternal life. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
The Bible tells us that people will preach another Jesus and another gospel. See Galatians 1:6-10 and II Cor 11:4. Be sure you are talking about the real Jesus-the only Son of God, the Messiah, and the Savior, who became man and became the sacrifice for our sins so we could have eternal life and a home in heaven with the Father.
Find out what the Bible says and be willing to be corrected.Listen to solid Bible teachers. Then check out what they say in the Word. It is good to be challenged about our beliefs. One of two things will happen. Either we will receive correction and get a better understanding of truth as God presents it to us, or we will be more firm than ever in what we believe and know is truth.
The truth is you can be baptized in the Holy Spirit and receive power to be an overcomer in life. You can be a bold witness for Jesus. You can have spiritual gifts as God gives them to you. John the Baptist said that Jesus will baptize (immerse us) in the the Holy Ghost and fire. Acts 1: 8 says we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us to witness the love of Jesus and his miracle working power in the earth.
The truth is all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom 3:23) But there is good news for the sinners. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The truth is you can call upon the Lord and He will save you.
Call Upon Jesus Now: Romans 10:13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Pray- Lord, I am a sinner who needs a Savior. I call upon you now. Thank You Jesus for dying for me to wash away my sins. I receive You, Jesus, now as my Savior and Lord of my life. I will live for You now. Correct me Lord when I need it; I need and desire Your correction. Baptize me in the Holy Spirit and fire to help me live a life pleasing to my Father in Heaven. In Jesus Name- Amen. Now read the Bible daily, get water baptized, met with other believers often, tell others what good things God has done for you. Read Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:8-9, 6:23, 10:9-10, 13; John 3:16; Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38.
