We have been on the trail at rodeos preaching victory in Jesus. To start the victory trip we must go through getting honest with ourselves. Name our sins, ask forgiveness, repent (change directions and turn from them. That is what we did at the Mineral Wells, Texas Rodeo Cowboy Church service behind the bucking chutes with the contestants and others. We simply read a list of sins in I Corinthians 6 and let the Bible do the comment. I Cor 6:9-10

Those we read about in the Bible came to Jesus one way, but left another way. There was change for the good. Their lifestyles changed. Jesus told the woman caught in adultery, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” He did not say you are forgiven so she would continue in sin. He has better things for us than what sin brings. Jesus has abundant life for us. It is found in doing His commands because we love Him. So we as a group confessed our sins and made a determination to do better in the future.

Each year the Jacksonville, Tx Pete Carr Classic Pro PRCA Rodeo is always a fun place to minster. We are made known that we and the gospel are welcome there each year. Because Jesus is welcome it is “A Place of Blessings”. We meet in the grandstands. Over the years we have seen people healed physically, spiritually, emotionally. We have seen people receive Jesus as Savior and others begin to grow in Christ. This year we looked at things we can do to be in A Place of  Blessings. Check out Deut 28:1-14. It says when we diligently do what God says that blessings will overtake us. We will be blessed in the city and in the field, blessed going in and coming out; we will be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, the lender and not the borrower. It says we will be blessed in what ever we put our hand to.

We went to the Wimberley, Texas VFW Memorial Day Weekend Rodeo the last weekend of May. It is produced by Lester Meier Rodeo Company. Lester always welcomes us and the Word of God at their rodeos. We hold Cowboy Church by the rodeo office where everyone gathers to pay their entry fees and check the draw sheets. So we get a good crowd.

This year I ministered on “The Costs of the Anointing and the Anointing Oil”. Jesus is the Messiah which means The Anointed One. In Greek it is Christos; it is where we get Christ. Jesus Christ is the Anointed One. It is a title. When we receive Christ Jesus as Savior we receive the Anointing. The anointing is the power of God in us and on us. Anoint means to smear, rub, or pour on. It costs Jesus His Blood to get the anointing to us.

In the Old Testament there were specific ingredients and amounts for the holy anointing oil used to anoint the tabernacle and the priests. But it was not so much about the spices and the smells as it was about “the costs”. I talked at the rodeo about the costs of the anointing. The myrrh (weighing 500 shekels) was very expensive. It would cost thousands of dollars per ounce in our day. The myrrh represented tears. Jesus brings gain out of our pain. The sweet cinnamon (250 shekels) represented zeal. Zeal is a strong desire and determination to serve God. The sweet calamus (cane) (250 shekels) comes from a rod. A rod was used to measure. God will measure us and stretch to a place of power and service. The cassia (500 shekels) represents the fire. We need the fire of God to powerfully defeat the enemy. Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Ghost and fire. (Luke 3:16)

We are told in James 5:14-15 to bring the sick to the elders of the church, anoint them with oil and God will heal them. The oil represents the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit always brings Jesus the Healer on the scene.

I told them we need the anointing to break off any yoke of bondage we can have. It could be addictions, anger, unforgiveness, fears, debt, ungodly lifestyles of any kind. The anointing destroys the yoke. Isaiah 10:27 “It shall come to pass in that day, That his burden will be take away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil”(NKJV) or “because of the anointing” (KJV).

And there is the anointing for service and for the power of God to flow to help people. Some are more anointed for healing, some for finances, deliverance ministry, some for miracles. We all have a level of anointing when we receive Jesus. We use the anointing to be a witness for Christ Jesus. He anoints us in greater levels when we serve Him and use what anointing He gives to us.

The people at this rodeo Cowboy Church service prayed for the anointing of God in their lives. Through out the rest of the night at the rodeo Cherlyn and I prayed with people for restoration to Jesus, and spoke healing for their bodies. As usual we see a lot of necks, backs, knees, elbows healed at rodeos. Jesus is The Anointed One we serve.
